RIBSTON HALL ASSOCIATION Newsletter May 2020

RHA Newsletter – May 2020

The impact that the school closure has had following government advice over the COVID-19 pandemic has been immense.  As parents ourselves, the RHA committee are very much aware of the uncertainty this current climate holds and the influence it may have on our children's academic future.   The RHA is hopeful that normality will resume in the near future and we continue to maintain our focus on supporting the school in the best way we can.  Stay safe everyone.

We have a ‘Numbers Quiz’ on the way to help with the ‘at home boredom’ to help us continue to raise funds despite not being able to organise social events.  Details will be sent separately & for each £4.00 entry, £1.00 will be given away as the prize.  So, if we get 100 people taking part, that’s a £100.00 prize up for grabs but it could be a larger sum if more take part!  Watch out for invitation shortly.

News & Events Family Quiz – 6th March 2020

Team - Poles Apart

We had a smashing time at the Family Quiz held (very luckily) just before the strict social distancing restrictions that have changed our everyday lives were announced.  9 teams took on the various challenges from general knowledge questions to Play-doh creations and much fun was had.  Thank you to all the parents and children that took part.

Team - That's Phil Amor

There could only be one winning team though and congratulations must be given to ‘Poles Apart’ who were a team of 2 but managed to just pip to the post just in front of the ‘King Charles & Spaniels’.

The children also fought hard and after a ‘buzzing’ tiebreaker the kudos went to ‘That’s Phil Amor’.

COMMITTEE NEW MEMBERS NEEDED.

The RHA has a vibrant and enthusiastic committee that supports the school at events and through fundraising.  However, most of the current member have children in the upper years and their term of office is finishing at the start of the next school year in September.  In particular, the positions of Chair and Secretary will become vacant and new members are urgently needed to bring a wider field of ideas and ensure that the RHA continues to offer the same service (if not better) in the future.

We would usually ask that you attend our next meeting if you are interested, however, in view of the current school closure meetings are postponed.  Please therefore send us an email at rha@ribstonhall.gloucs.sch.uk to show your interest.

RHA LOGO COMPETITION – prize to be won

Students may have plenty of time on their hands at the moment with the school closed and we still need more entries so maybe this could be a good challenge to take up?  The RHA has for many years been without its own logo and we thought it would be fabulous for a student to create one for us.  The winning design will be used in all the RHA notifications and on our section of the website.  Of course, we are offering a prize for the winner.  The creativity and talent within the school is impressive and we are sure the competition will be a hard one to judge.  The logo should encompass the RHA’s principle purpose and it’s open to students across all years and entries should be emailed to rha@ribstonhall.gloucs.sch.uk .  Good luck and get creative!

The FOCUS for our fundraising

Your support for the RHA and the events we arrange is vital especially in view of continuing challenges with school funds.  The RHA committee reviews all requests and we hope that our decisions reflect the expectations of the parents.  (NB-the best way to influence this is to join our committee!).  Our focus continues to be on the following projects:-

RIBSTON HALL HIGH SCHOOL ‘WELLBEING HUB’

The ‘Wellbeing Hub’ is an exciting project to integrate all the pastoral care within the school into a specifically designed, bright, relaxing and safe place for the students to visit.  The RHA has already funded £6000 towards the renovations and the ‘hub’ is well on its way (with fabulous student input) to realising its vision.

RIBSTON HALL HIGH SCHOOL ‘LIBRARY’

The library has always been a vital function of Ribston Hall and it is forever changing to meet the demands and needs of the students.  There is hope to install a ‘private area’ where students can discuss their career choices.

STUDY CENTRE

Re-designation of rooms within the school to create a new ‘study centre’.  This gives students from Y7 to Y13, a dedicated area to study where they can focus on revision and projects away from the distractions of school life.  RHA support to provide additional equipment has been requested, with your support we hope to be able to contribute to this important space..

Who are we?

The RHA constitution says we are here to:-

Develop more extended relationships between staff, parents and others associated with the school

Engage in activities which support the school and advance the education of the pupils attending it

Provide and assist in the provision of facilities for education at the school not normally provided by the department of Education & Employment

Or, in other words, we like organising events to raise essential funds for the school so they can make purchases that benefit our children. And, of course, have FUN.

All parents of students at Ribston Hall automatically become a member of the RHA.  The committee usually meets once every half-term (ie every other month) for 1-2 hours in an evening (around 6.00pm). We provide refreshments at school events, arrange fundraising activities which may also involve extra time commitments.

We are a friendly bunch and there is no prior experience needed – just some time, ideas and involvement. Come along to one of our meetings and we will give you a great welcome or contact us at rha@ribstonhall.gloucs.sch.uk with any questions.

What’s in it for me?  A great feeling of achievement knowing that your efforts have raised funds to support the schools commitment to provide the best education for Ribston’s students.  The realisation that what we do impacts on students school life. Gain an insight into the rhythm of the school through the activities we are involved in.
