Ribston Reads!

We would like to say thank you to all students, staff and parents who have recently read a book or encouraged another person to do so. This is because a new library record has been set, there are now over 1000 resources on loan from the library!

We all understand how important it is to read and develop our literacy skills here at Ribston, but this term the library and the English department have set reading challenges for each year group and set aside lesson time especially for reading for pleasure.

Well done and thank you to everyone who has responded to these challenges. Although the amount of books on loan is an incredible achievement, which the whole Ribston community can be proud of, we should also celebrate the individuals who have put in the effort to pick-up a book for the first time in a while. We all hope that you are enjoying the books you are reading, however, if you are still trying to find the perfect book, please visit the library as soon as possible.

The importance of reading cannot be underestimated; its benefits include increased literacy, numeracy and an improvement in social skills, building empathy and communication. It is also a great way to relax. For more information and evidence about the benefits of reading, please see https://readingagency.org.uk/news/media/reading-for-pleasure-builds-empathy-and-improves-wellbeing-research-from-the-reading-agency-finds.html

Let’s keep up the good work and keep Ribston reading!
