End of Year Reflections
As we reach the end of another academic year, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for their support and commitment. It has been a wonderful year filled with achievement, growth and memorable experiences. Our students have continued to demonstrate resilience, ambition and a positive attitude, making us incredibly proud of all they have accomplished.
I'd like to send particular congratulations to our Year 11 and Year 13 students, who have now completed their examinations and are awaiting their results in August. They have worked exceptionally hard throughout the year and approached the examination season with determination and maturity. We wish them every success and look forward to celebrating their achievements when results are released.
The final weeks of term have been packed with opportunities for students to learn beyond the classroom. The Night at the Movies end of year show was an outstanding production that highlighted the creativity, talent and dedication of our students and staff. Sports Day showcased teamwork, perseverance and house spirit, while enrichment activities and the Personal Development Day enabled students to explore new interests, develop valuable life skills and broaden their horizons.
It has been fantastic to see so many students embracing new experiences and challenges. Alongside this, countless everyday successes and positive contributions have made this a truly special year. Thank you to all of our students for being such excellent ambassadors for the school, and we wish everyone a safe, restful and enjoyable summer break.
Best Wishes
Mr. Alec Waters

Future Ready: Discovering Life Beyond GCSEs
|
|
|
In June, we welcomed Year 11 students from Ribston and schools across Gloucestershire and beyond for an exciting Sixth Form Taster Day, offering a real insight into life beyond GCSEs.
The day began with an energetic escape room challenge, where students took on the role of bank robbers in teams. This fun ice-breaker encouraged collaboration, quick thinking and, most importantly, helped students begin forming new friendships ahead of September.
Following the escape room, the students moved into a series of engaging subject taster sessions, designed to challenge their thinking and develop key skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and critical analysis. With a wide range of A-Level subjects on offer, our students were able to experience the variety and depth of Ribston’s academic provision, supported by expert teachers and current Sixth Formers.
A highlight of the day was the relaxed barbecue lunch, where students had further opportunities to socialise and speak to staff and students about their future choices. They were also introduced to Ribston’s unique Sixth Form offer, including the Ribston Baccalaureate, which helps students build confidence, character and experiences that set them apart for university, apprenticeships and future careers.
It was clear that the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thank you to everyone who attended. Applications remain open all summer. We look forward to welcoming you back as part of our vibrant Sixth Form community in September.

Cracking Codes and Creating Games!
|
|
|
Our Computing students have enjoyed some fantastic industry-focused experiences this term.
In May, a group of our Year 9 students successfully secured places on a three-day virtual work experience programme with CyberFirst. They heard from cybersecurity professionals, explored the skills needed for careers in the sector, learnt how experts respond to ransomware attacks, and completed a project to showcase their new knowledge. One student said, “Interactive decoding was my favourite activity, as it challenged me the most.” As a CyberFirst school, we are delighted to offer students opportunities like this to explore the exciting world of cybersecurity.
Meanwhile, our Year 10 students visited the University of Gloucestershire’s GAMEX Exhibition, where they played games created by university students and discovered the many roles involved in game development. From steering a virtual hamster using hand movements to exploring innovative game designs, there was plenty to inspire future programmers. Students also took part in a Unity workshop, creating their own target-practice game, and enjoyed a tour of the creative campus. One student commented, “I really enjoyed the campus tour as this is the creative campus and there is so much to see.”
These experiences provide valuable insight into future study and career opportunities in technology and computing.

Learning Beyond the Classroom: Inspirational Alumni and Academic Visitors
|
|
|
We were delighted to welcome former Ribston student, Liana (pictured), back to school this term. Liana delivered an inspiring talk on her journey from achieving outstanding A-Level results, to applying to leading universities, and successfully completing her first year studying Psychology at the University of Bristol. Her valuable insights and honest reflections gave our students a great perspective as they begin to explore their own future pathways.
Another inspirational guest speaker this term was Dr Anna Muggeridge from the University of Worcester, who delivered an engaging and thought-provoking session with our students. The workshop focused on 20th Century Women’s History, exploring key themes including legislative change, attitudes to female sexuality, LGBTQ experiences, historical research, and wider social changes. It provided valuable insight and linked directly to our A-Level Paper 1 specification, bringing learning to life in a really meaningful way.

Growing Greatness: Shaping Futures Takes Centre Stage
|
|
|
Amelia and Lila in Year 9 recently hosted their third Business Enterprise sale, and this year’s event was their best yet! Building on previous success, they worked closely with Year 7 students to develop key entrepreneurial skills, including how to plan, promote, and run a successful business.
The younger students then took the lead, designing their own ventures and deciding what products to sell. The result was an impressive and diverse marketplace, featuring everything from baked goods and sweet treats to beauty products, crafts, and some particularly eye-catching crocheted items – a firm favourite with both students and staff!
Amelia and Lila were also able to count this fantastic initiative towards the volunteering section of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. A huge well done to both for their leadership, creativity, and commitment!

A Night at the Movies: A Spectacular Showcase of Talent
|
|
|
Our recent Night at the Movies performance was a truly unforgettable evening, celebrating the incredible creativity, dedication and talent of our students.
The audience was treated to a stunning programme inspired by some of the most beloved films and movie soundtracks. Students showcased their skills through an impressive combination of dance, instrumental performances and singing, bringing iconic cinematic moments to life on stage.
From energetic dance routines and powerful musical performances, every act demonstrated the hard work and commitment that had gone into preparing for the event. The variety of performances highlighted the breadth of talent across the school and kept the audience entertained throughout the evening.
We are incredibly proud of all the students who took part, both on stage and behind the scenes, as well as the staff who supported the event. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make Night at the Movies such a memorable success.

Learning, Leadership and Life Skills
|
|
Despite soaring temperatures, our third Personal Development Day of the year was packed with engaging activities and valuable learning opportunities across all year groups.
Year 7 focused on staying active and healthy in preparation for the summer months. Students heard from PC Laura Jones from Gloucestershire Constabulary about recognising the warning signs of exploitation and grooming, before exploring the importance of good nutrition, regular exercise and healthy sleep habits in supporting physical and mental wellbeing.
Year 8 examined important issues around misogyny and gender inequality. Through sessions led by Ellie from the Hollie Gazzard Trust, discussions on representations in popular culture, and reflections on relationships portrayed on screen, students developed their understanding of respect, equality and healthy relationships.
Year 9 explored democracy and active citizenship, preparing for a future in which 16-year-olds will be eligible to vote in England. Students considered the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, created political manifestos and took on the role of Chancellor, deciding how they would allocate public spending. The day began with visits from local councillors Roseanna Marshall and Valerie Simms, alongside Karen James, Chief of Staff to local MP Alex McIntyre, who shared insights into local government and political life.
Year 10 focused on employability and future pathways, taking part in mock interviews with local employers, identifying their strengths through careers activities and completing their UniFrog skills profiles. A special “Thank You” goes to Mrs Sara Reader, Careers Lead, for coordinating the interviews and welcoming our visitors on a particularly warm day.
Our third Professional Development Day provided students with a fantastic opportunity to develop essential knowledge, skills and confidence for life beyond the classroom.

Preparing for the Future: UCAS and Healthcare Careers
|
|
|
Our Year 12 students enjoyed a valuable Progression Day focused on planning their next steps beyond Sixth Form.
We were delighted to welcome back Ribston alumna Olivia Rajesh, who recently completed her Pharmacy degree at the University of York. Olivia shared her experiences of university life and provided practical advice on applications and interviews for students interested in studying Medicine, Pharmacy and other healthcare-related degrees. Her insights gave students a first-hand perspective on the journey from Sixth Form to higher education and beyond.
Students also took part in a UCAS information event designed to support their post-18 progression planning. During the session, they logged into their UCAS accounts, explored the application process and began drafting their personal statements. Expert guidance was provided on how to effectively highlight their skills, achievements and ambitions, helping students make a strong start to their applications.
The day offered an excellent opportunity for students to develop their confidence, gain valuable advice and take important first steps towards university, apprenticeships and future careers. We are grateful to Olivia for returning to Ribston to share her knowledge and inspire the next generation of applicants.

Our Year 12 students went to a Sociology and Criminology Taster Day at The University of Gloucestershire this half-term. They enjoyed the visit to the Oxtalls Campus, where they had the opportunity to take part in two engaging lectures – one on interviewing suspects and another on policing retail crime.
One of the highlights was a campus tour, where they saw the university's impressive FutureSim building, featuring indoor and outdoor crime scene simulation areas and an immersive video room.
They were also able to learn more about related courses such as Law, Crime and Criminal Investigation, as well as gain valuable advice on what to consider when choosing a university.

A thriving school community is built on partnership, and parental engagement is one of the most powerful forces behind student success. Getting involved with the Ribston Hall Association (RHA) — the Parent, Teacher and Friends’ Association for Ribston Hall High School — gives families a meaningful way to shape their children’s school experience.
By joining the RHA, parents help raise vital funds, support enriching activities, and strengthen the sense of belonging that makes Ribston special. Your voice, your time, and your enthusiasm genuinely make a difference, and the RHA offers a welcoming space for every parent who wants to contribute to our vibrant, supportive school environment. Please visit our website for more information about how you can help.
The RHA also organise events throughout the year, including the recent School Disco for Year 7 and 8 students. You can keep updated by following the RHA on social media. They are: RibstonHallAssociation on Facebook and @ribstonhallassociation on Instagram.
