Physical Education is a popular subject that is an integral part of school life at Ribston Hall. Lessons are fun and dynamic and the broad curriculum offers a wide variety to students in all Key Stages. The Ribston Hall PE department are committed to delivering high quality lessons using a variety of teaching methods. We aim to ensure that all students are challenged and inspired in lessons and we create an environment where students can be independent in their learning and develop numerous life skills that are transferable to other subjects and everyday challenges. Our Leadership programmes are highly regarded and many of their themes run through many lessons from an early age.
The activities on offer include Netball, Hockey, Swimming, Football, Rugby, Gymnastics, Trampolining, Badminton, Basketball, Tennis, Rounders and Athletics. (these may vary per Year group).
There are different activities on offer, to try and encourage life- long participation. These include Yoga, Trampolining, Basketball, Flexi-bar, Badminton, Ultimate Frisbee and Aerobics.
In Year 9 our students all participate in Sports Education where they have the chance to lead their peers and develop skills in a team situation. Teams work in a variety of activities and are fully responsible for their learning and development over a series of lessons. This programme has become very popular with the students and allows for every student to make a valid contribution to the outcomes achieved.
Ribston Hall follows the AQA Examination Board. Students are assessed on the theoretical aspects of Sport in 2 written papers, 60% of the overall grade. Students will be assessed on 3 practical performances and will carry out a practical analysis, 40 % of the marks over a two year period. GCSE PE is not set against any other option choice, enabling students to select GCSE PE instead of taking part in core PE lessons.
We follow the AQA Examination Board, which is a natural progression from GCSE. Students will sit 2 x 2 hour written papers. They have to take part in 1 performance or coaching role, which is internally assessed and externally moderated.
For more information on either the GCSE or A level please visit the AQA website
The Physical Education Department offer a wide variety of Extra-curricular Clubs at both lunchtime and after school. This includes a full fixture calendar, with the students competing at both District and County Competitions.
Intra-school competition is a high priority for life at Ribston Hall, with many inter house competitions also taking place throughout the year.
Our student’s success is celebrated at the end of the year with a Sports Awards evening, where we welcome both the students and their parents to attend. Cups and colours will be presented to our students at this time.
