    Shaping Futures

    At Ribston, we want every child in our local area to have a fair chance to join our school and feel part of our community. We are part of the 'Shaping Futures' initiative which was set up by Pate's Grammar School and is a partnership project with the other grammar schools in Gloucestershire.

    Our aim is to encourage equal opportunity regardless of a child's background and by widening access to grammar school for Pupil Premium and Pupil Premium Plus children. We do this by identifying and removing barriers there may for local families and providing support and resources that they can easily access.

    We partner with primary schools in our local area, and both our teachers and students get involved in activities with children and teachers from these schools throughout the year – from computers to drama, cooking and sport. We are partnered with 13 schools and are delighted to offer our current programmes of activity to:

    • Calton Primary School
    • Finlay Community School
    • Linden Primary School
    • St Pauls CofE Primary School and Nursery
    • St James' CofE Primary School (Gloucester)
    • Heron Primary School
    • Upton St Leonards CofE Primary School
    • Meadowside Primary School
    • Waterwells Primary Academy
    • Tredworth Junior School
    • Hillside Primary School
    • Widden Primary School

    Removing Barriers to Access

    The Shaping Futures Programme begins when Head Teachers' from our Primary Partnership schools nominate high-attaining Pupil Premium students. After this, we are in contact with families who can register on the programme and families then start their journey with us. This includes:

    • Access to Free 11+ Familiarisation Materials and the Atom Learning Platform – this includes learning resources and practice questions covering English, Maths, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning, along with mock tests);
    • Access to English, Maths and Non-Verbal reasoning familiarisation lessons and materials;
    • A free programme of events such as Computing Days, STEM Days and Performance Days (where students can take part in Music, Dance, Drama and PE activities);
    • A mentoring programme with our Year 12 students; and
    • A dedicated Parent Help Desk for Entrance Test Registration.

    Please note: Since 11+ tests vary from one area to another, the free familiarisation materials are generic and may differ from your own test's exact specifications. These differences may include the length of papers, the types of questions covered, and/or the level of difficulty.
