In April, our Sociology students welcomed Maisie Lillywhite, BBC Gloucestershire journalist and proud Ribston alumna, for an engaging talk on her career journey.
Maisie shared insights into her role at the BBC, the stories she has covered, the influential figures she has interviewed, and the many ways studying Sociology has shaped her professional path.
Our students also learned about different routes into journalism, including upcoming apprenticeship opportunities, giving them a clearer picture of the pathways available if they’re interested in media or reporting.
Baroness Rennie Fritchie, distinguished public servant and former chancellor of the University of Gloucestershire, was warmly remembered for her lifelong commitment to leadership, education, and community impact in an article on the BBC website in March.
Written by former Ribston student, Masie Lilywhite, the article reflects on Baroness Fritichie's career, including a decade as Chancellor of the University of Gloucestershire (2012–2022).
Baroness Fritchie was celebrated for her warmth, wisdom, and belief in the power of education. Friends and colleagues recall her as a kind, caring person who really made a difference.
