    Thank you for your interest in Ribston Hall High School. 

    We welcome applications from Gloucestershire and beyond. As a selective school, entry to Year 7 is determined by performance in the Gloucestershire Grammar Schools' Entrance Test. 

    All students must sit and pass the Grammar Schools' Entrance Test to gain a place at our school. In-year admissions may also be considered where places are available and applicants meet the school's academic entry standards.

    Our Sixth Form offers an extensive range of academic opportunities, with admission based on GCSE results and subject-specific entry requirements, which are detailed on our Sixth Form pages.

    Ribston is an Academy and as such, the Governing Body of the school is the admissions' authority responsible for all admissions. Our Governing Body operates in line with Gloucestershire County Council’s coordinated scheme for school admissions and the School Admissions Code.

    Grammar Schools Entrance Test (Year 7 Admissions)

    In April 2026, we shared a press release along with the six other grammar schools in Gloucestershire about changes to the admission process for students starting school in 2028.  This included announcing Future Stories Community Enterprise (FSCE) as the new provider of the Grammar School Entrance Test. 

    FCSE is a not-for-profit subsidiary of Reading School which develops bespoke admissions assessments designed specifically for selective state grammar schools. Their tests are currently used by twelve grammar schools nationally, with more than 8,000 pupils sitting FCSE papers each year. 

    New Grammar School Entrance Test Arrangements

    The Gloucestershire Grammar Schools Entrance Test for entry into Year 7 in September 2028 will take place on Saturday 3 July 2027. If your child is currently in Year 5 and wishes to apply for a place at a Gloucestershire Grammar School, they must take this test. Registration will open on Monday 8 February 2027 (12 noon) and close on Friday 19 March 2027 (12 noon).

    Following the Gloucestershire Grammar Schools announcement earlier this year, the new test provider will be Future Stories Community Enterprise (FSCE). The new admissions test will consist of three FSCE papers: 

    • Adventure Paper: English and Maths, with Multiple Choice Answer options;
    • Beacon Paper: English and Maths, where you respond with Short Written Answers;
    • Compass Paper: any of the following subjects you learn at school: Art & Design, Computing, Design & Technology, English, Geography, History, Languages, Maths, Music, Physical Education, Science, with Multiple Choice Answer options.

    The new test is designed to align closely with the work students experience in their primary schools. Maths and English remain part of the assessment, so preparation can focus on developing the maths skills they are learning in school, along with reading a wide and exciting range of books across different genres.
