Homework is designed to consolidate and extend learning, provide appropriate challenge and support students in developing strong independent study habits.

Key Stage 3

• Students receive one homework per subject per fortnight, with each homework expected to take up to one hour.
• Year 9 English and Maths: Homework is set weekly.
• Year 9 GCSE option subjects: All subjects that students may choose as GCSE options are included within the Year 9 homework timetable.

Key Stage 4

• Students receive one homework per subject each week, with each piece of homework expected to take up to one hour. As students progress through Key Stage 4, they should expect to do additional private study on top of their designated homework.

Key Stage 5

• Students should complete approximately five hours of independent work per subject each week.

General guidance for parents

• All homework is recorded on Satchel One, including details of the task and deadline.
• Students should record their homework day and teacher in their Learning Journal.
• Students will normally be given a minimum of one week to complete homework.
• Homework should consolidate or extend learning, provide an appropriate level of challenge, and have clear expectations.
• Homework completion is monitored by the class teacher. 
• Holiday work, other than revision activities, will normally be optional.
