Amnesty International Youth Group

Our Amnesty International Youth group began towards the end of January and we have quickly formed a group of around 20! We have been working on Amnesty’s brave campaign which focuses to recognise Human Rights Defenders who speak out for us all. We chose to help Azza Soliman, an Egyptian Human rights defender who defends victims of torture, rape, arbitrary detention and domestic violence. She faces twenty-five years of detainment. The Egyptian authorities have tried to keep her quiet, they have labelled her as a spy, harassed her, frozen her assets and banned her from travelling. To do our bit, we have each written Azza a postcard of support. We have also created a petition which we have sent off to Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, the president of Egypt, opposing Azza Soliman from being detained for 25 years. We have so many more exciting events and campaigns to take part in; any new members are more than welcome to join our Youth Group!
