Key Stage 3 

Description

Physical Education is a popular subject that is an integral part of school life at Ribston Hall. Lessons are fun and dynamic and the broad curriculum offers a wide variety to students in all Key Stages. We follow the National curriculum. The Ribston Hall PE department are committed to delivering high quality lessons using a variety of teaching methods. We aim to ensure that all students are challenged and inspired in lessons and we create an environment where students can be independent in their learning and develop numerous life skills that are transferable to other subjects and everyday challenges. Our Leadership programmes are highly regarded and many of their themes run through many lessons from an early age.

Content

The activities on offer for KS3 include: Netball, Hockey, Swimming, Football, Rugby, Gymnastics, Trampolining, Badminton, Basketball, Tennis, Rounders, Health Related Fitness, Cricket and Athletics. (these may vary per Year group). The activities on offer for KS4 include: Alternative Games league, Leadership training programme, Aesthetic Activities, Rounders, Tennis, Athletics and Fitness

Description

Students are assessed on the theoretical aspects of Sport in 2 written papers, 60% of the overall grade. Students will be assessed on 3 practical performances and will carry out a practical analysis, 40 % of the marks over a two year period.

AQA

Description

We follow the AQA Examination Board, which is a natural progression from GCSE. Students will sit 2 x 2 hour written papers. They have to take part in 1 performance or coaching role, which is internally assessed and externally moderated.

Extra-curricular opportunities 

The Physical Education Department offer a wide variety of Extra-curricular Clubs at both lunchtime and after school. This includes a full fixture calendar, with the students competing at both District and County Competitions.

Intra-school competition is a high priority for life at Ribston Hall, with many inter house competitions also taking place throughout the year. Our student’s success is celebrated at the end of the year with a Sports Awards evening, where we welcome both the students and their parents to attend. Cups and colours will be presented to our students at this time.

Students are offered a variety of opportunities to lead at sports events across the city run by the Gloucester School Sports Network. Students can apply to become AdiStars which are Ribston Halls top sports Ambassadors who help lead events and support the PE department. Ribston Hall run the Duke of Edinburgh Award, starting in year 9 with the Bronze through to the Gold in 6th Form.
